Marching Band – Percussion and Guard Requirements

To Join

Step 1: Complete the Marching Band form on the Join page
Step 2: Register for CFA MU 091 A1 on Studentlink
Step 3: Submit a video if you are a new guard or percussion member (see below)

New Member Video

If you are a new guard or percussion member, please send us a video performing the materials specified below. These videos will NOT be used to determine if you have a spot in the color guard or percussion. These videos will be used to determine the skill set of the group before band camp in order to plan accordingly for the season. Videos MUST be received by Monday, August 12th. Returning members are not required to submit a video.

Material to Perform – Guard

Flag Technique:
Drop Spins ( 100 drops spins left and right)
Tosses ( Singles also known as 3 count toss/1 and half toss also known as 4 count toss left side and right)
Parallel toss
Unique tricks/skills on flag
Short excerpt of work you are comfortable with

Weapon (Rifle/Sabre) Technique:
Hand Spins ( 100 left and right)
Tosses ( single/double/triple/quad/or the highest toss possible)
Unique tricks/skills on weapon
Short excerpt of work you are comfortable with

Video Requirements

– Upload your video via YouTube
– Videos are due by Monday, Aug. 12th
– Perform the material for your preferred piece of equipment.

Snare Drum, Tenors, Bass Drum:
Exercises 1-4 @ m.m. 100
Exercises 5 @ m.m. 120
BU Cadence “Mantequilla” @ m.m. 124
Short solo of your choice

Front Ensemble:
Exercise 1 – 4 @ m.m. 100
Exercise 5 @ m.m. 120
@ m.m. 104
Short solo of your choice

Video Requirements

– Upload your video via YouTube
– Videos are due by Monday, Aug. 12th
– Perform the material for your preferred section
– Perform with a metronome audible in your video
